In the July 2023 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors about how they have adapted their businesses in the age of automation. Here’s one survey question and its results from the summary report, which is available in it’s entirety by Contractor University members here.
How Are You Using AI In Your Business?
The responses paint a clear picture of where businesses see the most value in AI. A large majority (64%) have leveraged or plan to leverage AI for marketing and lead generation. Other areas, like customer support or inquiries (36%) and sales (31%), also see considerable interest. However, areas like system diagnostics remain largely untapped at 7%, suggesting potential growth avenues.
The pronounced interest in using AI for marketing and lead generation indicates a recognition of AI’s potential in reaching and engaging customers more effectively. However, the underutilization in areas like system diagnostics suggests businesses might be prioritizing immediate customer-facing benefits over long-term operational efficiencies. Diversifying AI applications could lead to more holistic business improvements.
Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Alabama:
“We are currently experimenting with ChatGPT generating customer communications, letters, and Q&A. We are hoping AI will assist inquiries and reduce phone time in our customer service department.”
