In the December 2023 Snapshot Survey, we asked contractors about challenges they face in the winter time. Here’s one survey question and its results detailing their business volume in winter from the summary report, which is available in it’s entirety by Contractor University members here.
How does your business volume in the winter compare to other seasons?
Survey data shows a notable seasonal impact on business volume, with 73% of respondents experiencing lower business in winter (36% somewhat lower, 37% significantly lower). This trend highlights the winter season’s challenging nature, where many contractors face a reduction in work, necessitating strategic adjustments to sustain operations and revenue. The combined 13% who reported an increase in business volume during this season may be located in regions with harsh winters, where heating system maintenance and repairs become more critical, highlighting the regional variability in demand.
Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Indiana said in the survey:
“The weather the last two years has definitely been a challenge in our area, much milder winters. We use this time to regroup as a team, clean up the shop and work on training we can’t manage when we are running like crazy.”
