In the April 2022 Snapshot Survey, we asked contracting business owners about how they prepare to maximize the summer influx of business to help you incorporate best practice strategies into your company planning. Here’s one survey question and its results from the “Preparing for the Summer Busy Season” summary report, which will be available in its entirety to EGIA members on 5/20/22.
When do you start planning for the summer busy season?
Higher summer temperatures are often accompanied by air conditioner outages that can make life miserable for homeowners and stressful for unprepared HVAC business owners. For contractors who are prepared, the summer busy season can be a source of great prosperity. According to the contractors who took our survey, the majority of contractors (50%) begin preparing for the summer busy season two to three months prior. 10% said they begin planning over six months in advance. With many complex systems and procedures to put into place, from hiring to lead coordination to dispatching, the earlier businesses can prepare, typically the more successful their summers will be.
Here’s what an HVAC contractor from Illinois said in the survey:
“Marketing, Logistics, Warehouse, HR/Hiring, and CSRs all focus on planning, ordering, hiring, booking to get ahead of busy season in effort to stay on task and be as profitable as possible during summer busy season. We try to be proactive as oppose to reactive.”
